Carbon Neutral IT?

A company having no impact on climate change sounds like it should be simple.  Simple as it may sound, it is a complex issue.  The general consensus for what defines ‘carbon neutral’ is still evolving and may continue to evolve.

Many companies begin with a traditional structure: office buildings, fleets of vehicles and frequent corporate travel.  From this position they attempt to work towards carbon neutrality by first making changes in their practices.  Once they have made an attempt to minimize their total carbon footprint, they off-set the remainder of their footprint by utilizing ‘carbon credits’ or ‘off-sets’.

A ‘carbon credit’ is also a new and constantly evolving concept.  On the most fundamental level, a carbon credit is a funding system to move our economy towards more environmentally sustainable practices.  The money gathered through the carbon off-set system can go towards a wide range of projects from methane capture at landfills to funding of wind turbine construction projects in third world countries.

At iSupportU, we have an advantage over the standard company.  From the very beginning, we looked to create a sustainable solution to IT support.  This means we did not have to change an existing structure to make it more ‘green’.  We were sustainable by definition.

We do our service by bicycle here in Boulder to minimize our transportation carbon footprint.  We use efficient cooling systems at our office on Pearl Street to lower power consumption.  For the carbon impact that we do make, we off-set with carbon credits through the Colorado Carbon Fund.

We love to talk about this topic, so feel free to ask any of our team for more details.  We believe we are working to create a business model that will be the future of our new economy.  Our clients play an important role in ensuring we have economic sustainability in order to continue with our mission.  We appreciate the contribution our clients make to our mission.  Be the change you desire.
